Pre-School and Nursery Care

At The Mulberry Bush Day Nurseries and pre-school playgroup, we ensure that children aged from 3 months right through to five years old are provided with appropriate and safe environments in which to have fun and to learn. Our units are well resourced, carefully equipped and staffed for each age group.

We value fresh air and exercise, our large outdoor play areas are used throughout the day for free play as well as organised activities. Children need to make their own discoveries through play, and in conjunction with this, they require guidance from adults who understand their individual needs, and who will provide activities to stimulate learning and development.

All of our activities are designed to meet the requirements of the Foundation Stage curriculum, which covers the period from birth to the end of the reception year in school. We run a pre-school playgroup for children aged two to five, during term time only. These early stages of a child’s development are crucial, and a combination of free and directed play is essential to physical and mental stimulation.

How is the Typical Day Organised?

Although no two days are the same at Mulberry Bush Day Nurseries, we are aware of the importance of a sense of routine in childcare.

Children who arrive at the day nursery between 7.30am and 8.15am will receive a healthy and well-balanced breakfast before they begin the day (for more information please visit our ‘Food’ page). The day is organised to meet the individual needs of the child, which is why our childcare routines are fairly flexible.

We recognise the importance of choice, even with younger children, which is why each child has a ‘Play Plan’, which details their interests and favourite activities – both at home and in nursery. This ensures that the most appropriate activities are provided and monitored.

What Will My Child Do At Nursery?

Our staff provide a range of creative and interesting activities for the children, both at day nursery and our pre-school playgroup.

Activities are usually based around each child’s personal interests, and each child has a play plan which is shared with parents and revised regularly as children’s interests change, and as they learn to do more.

We never rush a child – development at their own pace is key, so we never set tasks that are beyond their capabilities.

Ensuring the child has an element of choice in their activities is how we get the best out of them.
